Village pincode finder

Type the name of a village to see its pincode, tehsil and district as recorded in the Census of India 2011. Enter a six digit pincode instead and you will be taken to the page listing every village that code covers. गाँव का नाम लिखिए और पिन कोड, तहसील तथा ज़िला देखिए। छह अंकों का पिन कोड लिखने पर उस कोड के सारे गाँव खुल जाएँगे।

How the match works

Names are matched from the start, not from the middle, because a substring scan across 589,883 village rows cannot use an index and would time out. A pincode covers a postal delivery area rather than a single settlement, so one code usually serves several neighbouring villages through the same post office.

A code is recorded for 362,876 of those villages. The remaining 222,565 records carry “N/A” in the pincode column rather than a code, and those rows show as not recorded here instead of being given a guess. The post office serving that area still exists; the 2011 record simply does not name its code.
