Mutation

Also called: Dakhil Kharij, Namantaran

Transferring the name in the revenue record after a sale or inheritance.

Registration records the transaction; mutation changes whose name stands in the revenue record. The two are separate steps and mutation does not happen automatically. Until it is done, the record still shows the previous owner, which is a frequent source of disputes years after a sale.
