Gram Panchayat
The elected local government for one or more villages.
A gram panchayat is the elected council at the base of rural local government, usually covering one large village or a group of small ones. It is the unit through which NREGA work, housing grants and many other schemes are administered, so a village may not have its own panchayat even though it has its own census entry.
